This is a challenging question to answer since different people will have different experiences. Some factors that make steps particularly difficult are:
- Height – the higher the step the greater the challenge
- Angle – the close to a right angle the step is, the harder it is to get in
- Enclosed spaces – it is often easiest to attempt steps one wheel at a time
- If it goes up and then down – you might get stuck with 2 wheels on one side and the others on the other side
- If it is uneven or wonky – this can mean wheelchair users lose control and tip
- If there is something the other side of the step – they might run into it
- Space around to get in/out
